Asude: Welcome Philip, we’ve been following you for a long time. So, thank you for taking the time to chat with us! We all wonder where you are from and how did you get started with filmmaking?

Philip: I was born on May 9th, 1978 in beautiful Hamburg. I have always been interested in technique and filming. But, my first experience was when I was at the university. During my studies, I was working as a scientific helper at the media centre for the 24-hour-library of Karlsruher Institute of Technologie. The media centre had a lot of technical equipment in addition to audio and filmmaking equipment. My task was not only taking care of the equipment, but also helping with various film projects for students. The best part about that job was that I could use and test all of the great equipment which helped me learn a lot. For a student, it was like a dream come true.

A: That sounds like a great start! And, how did your passion for filmmaking turn into a job for you?

P: My first job was a music video for a rapper Tone from Frankfurt and Savant des Rimes from Paris. I got the film equipment and cameras from the university so I could use the equipment for free. And, that was how I actually got the job because.

A: What an excellent opportunity you’ve had there! And, what’s your point of view on videography?

P: I do art, video as an art. I always improve my point of view. I love what I do. I have energy for it. I am looking forward to every new day where I can evolve my creativity.

A: It’d be true to say that you have a passion for it! Could you describe your videography style a bit?

P: Due to my holistic nature, I alway want to represent all dimensions of the film as exact as possible, for example, it is important for me to visualize time and space. edelkrone products are perfect for this purpose. My style is like my lifestyle, dynamic and elegant, fast, but sometimes slow motion. I love martial arts, surfing and waves. Fresh or modern, minimalistic or cinematic. I have a flexible style which fits to the project and its energy.

A: Could you tell us a little bit about the preparations you make before you begin filming?

P: For me, the better the preparation, the more successful the production is. Even if there is no time to plan, it’s important to make the best out of it. A lot of jobs have to be done without preparations, because of the lack of time and financial reasons. So, it’s a big advantage when you are able to produce something with quality out of a chaos project.

A: What equipment do you bring to your productions? Do you prefer buying or renting your filmmaking equipment?

P: I bring My Sony A7sii, A7iii, edelkrone SliderPLUS, HeadPLUS, 2 Motion BOXes, 4-7 Lenses, filters, Mavic 2 Pro, Rode NTG 2 , Sennheiser G3, Tripod. I prefer to have my own equipment. It’s only possible to get good at what you do with your own equipment when you do it daily. That's what matters.

A: Good point! What would be the best advice you could give to other filmmakers and the best advice you’ve ever been given?

P: Keep it simple and short (KISS). Do what you love and you will get better at it. I already knew this rule since my childhood!

A: We can see that! And, what software do you use for post-production?

P: Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, LRT Timelapse, Motion, Compressor.

A: By your company’s nature, you work on lots of different areas and exciting projects. Have you ever received an award before?

P: At the Digital Communication Awards 2017, Karkalis Communications won the price for best Influencer Communication and Product Campaign of the year. At the PR Report Awards 2017, the campaign also won best Consumer Marketing prize. I directed the whole video production myself and a main team member of the project. A: Congratulations, that’s great! So, what do you think about the future of filmmaking with the technology is advancing so fast?

P: I hope the cameras stay better than mobile phones.

A: Would you mind sharing your biggest ambition for the future with us?

P: I want to reel the world - international production with my lifestyle combined.
